Weekly Outage and Initial Catch Up: "Every Tuesday SETI@home begins a five hour data distribution outage for database and systems maintenance. The upload/download servers will be offline during this time. Afterwards you may experience connectivity issues for several more hours as the servers catch up with demand." https://setiathome.berkeley.edu
"Men and Women wanted for a hazardous distributed computing Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. Low wages, bitter false positives, long hours of data crunching, overheating CPU's and GPUs. Safe return doubtful without caffeinated beverages. Honour and recognition in event of technosignal detection." (adapted from the apocryphal newspaper ad made by famed explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton)
SETI.Germany invites all BOINC teams to the SETI@Home Wow! Event 2019 https://www.seti-germany.de/Wow/home which takes place from Aug.15th, 1600 UTC until Aug.29th 2019, 1600 UTC. "We cordially ask all team leaders to forward the invitation to their team. Information about the Wow! Race & a registration form can be found at https://www.seti-germany.de/Wow/register/en SETI.Germany wishes you & your team members much fun!" -- Facebook Event https://www.facebook.com/events/440620326793598/

Dr Richard Lawn has posted another interesting article to the SETI Perspectives section, "Seeing the Unseeable: The Black Hole Image", about the Event Horizon Telescope's image of the black hole in M87. https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=84366

World Community Grid @WCGrid is hosting this year's @BOINCworkshop (July 9-12) In Chicago. See live and archived events at Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJDOd7pQf1IF8ZxKHpNwung/videos https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=12945#91467

2019.07.13 BOINCstats (Willy) - Next weekend (July 14-15) the new BOINCstats website will be released. It's an all new design which plays nicely with mobile phones and tablets. Security is improved, pages and forms are optimized. It's a big change but most pages kan be found in the same place as before. Support for customized languages has been dropped, most were not properly maintained. For those who really need a translated version the build in translation of the browser may do the trick. I found it to be pretty decent for Dutch. And if you really can't get used to the new design, the old version of BOINCstats can be found at https://classic.boincstats.com, but be aware, that version will no longer be maintained and will receive no updates other than security patches! https://boincstats.com/en/forum/8/5247391

What happened, or didn’t happen, next astonishes me to this day. I do not remember raucous cheering and clapping, football-stadium-style, as Apollo 11 soared away, piercing the light clouds. All I remember was silence, as if the crowd was dumbstruck by the sheer majesty of the event. It was the greatest technological achievement of the era, maybe of all time. -- Eric Reguly
